Air Conditioning Maintenance

Every air conditioning system requires a certain amount of basic and routine maintenance. Much of the basic work can be done at home by yourself, though some will require the assistance of professionals. Regardless of who performs the work, it's imperative that your home system remains well-maintained so it will continue to function through and beyond its expected lifespan, saving you the headache of having to prematurely think about replacement options. The technicians at C & C Heating & Air Conditioning are trained and skilled in a wide array of maintenance services to help you through this process.

Home Maintenance

According to the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, almost 90% of HVAC system failures are the direct result of interference from dirt and dust. This can be largely mitigated by regularly cleaning out your air conditioning vents and changing the air filters. The conventional suggestion is to clean out the vents once a month, so they don't get clogged and become more difficult to clean in the warmer seasons when doing so more often is advisable.

The need to change filters varies widely by brand, model, and manufacturer, so it's best to check with and follow the manufacturer's or installer's instructions and recommendations to determine how often the filter should be replaced. It may seem easy to put this off and procrastinate if the information is not readily available, but taking the first step to get all the information you need can save you a lot of money in the long run. C & C Heating & Air Conditioning is always available to help put you on the right track.

The Benefits of Professional Maintenance

Eventually, however, every air conditioning system is going to need to be professionally maintained, as a drop in efficiency is inevitable. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, even 1/100th (0.01) of an inch of dirt, film, or dust on an evaporator coil is likely to reduce its efficiency by 5%. Increase that number to 1/24th (0.042) of an inch, and efficiency is decreased by as much as 21%! Similar reduction in efficiency, or an increase in power usage can result from dirty condenser coils or blowers, as well.

Scheduling regular professional maintenance will help prevent these problems, and keep efficiency high, and power usage minimal. During a visit, technicians will look over all of your system hardware, inspecting them for signs of wear and need for repair or replacement. They will also search for leaks, check your coolant levels, and tweak your system to make sure it's running smoothly.

The Need for Maintenance Sneaks Up

It's natural to feel that you can put off scheduling maintenance when using a newly-installed system, as it will work well and smoothly for even several years before inefficiency becomes a problem. However, once inefficiency becomes apparent, wear can already have begun, and lack of regular maintenance may mean that integral parts of the system are not being repaired, or damage that could have been prevented is already taking its toll. Existing inefficiency usually leads to more inefficiency as the system works harder to do less, and before you know it, all kinds of other problems can crop up, and your energy bills will get more expensive.

Regular maintenance checkups will also reduce or entirely remove the need for emergency repairs, as our technicians at C & C Heating & Air Conditioning very often catch problems before they have time to start adversely affecting your system. By extension, a well-tuned and clean system will also keep your energy bills lower and less prone to spikes due to inefficiency. Our goal is to work with you through education or direct maintenance to keep your system running at its highest levels for as long as possible. So give us a call today!
