Five Tips to Minimize the Strain on Your AC System This Summer
The Farmer’s Almanac predicts that Michigan’s summer forecast will be “warm-to-hot soggy.”
And, this isn’t a great forecast if you are an air conditioner. What it means is that your own AC unit is gearing up for battle with a humid season that’s sure to keep it on its toes.
As your Detroit-area cooling specialists, C & C Heating & Air Conditioning has some tips to help you minimize the strain on your AC system this summer:
Schedule a tune-up
If you didn’t have a tune-up on your air conditioning unit this spring, it’s never too late to schedule one. During standard maintenance, HVAC techs can replace worn parts, oil moving parts and let you know what needs to be repaired before the hottest weather hits.
Change your air filters
We can’t bring this one up enough. It’s such a simple remedy but is often forgotten during our daily chores. Keeping air filters changed regularly helps your air conditioner run at its most efficient and keeps your air cleaner.
Close the blinds
During the hottest parts of the day, you should close the blinds or curtains in your home. It keeps the sun’s rays out and lessens the heat your AC unit has to combat.
Use fans to help boost your AC
While ceiling and box fans don’t technically cool the air, they do push the cool air from the AC unit throughout your home. This keeps your air conditioner from having to cool every inch of your home and cuts down on your run times.
Install a programmable thermostat
Whether you install a programmable or smart thermostat, the savings are measurable. Both will allow you to cool your home less when you are away or asleep. This allows your air conditioner to run less during times when cooling isn’t a premium.
Your air conditioner is an essential component of your home’s comfort systems and helping it during the strain of the hottest season will not only allow you to stay cool without issue but can also help you save some money on your utility bills.
