Heating Installation in Roseville, MI

The leaves have fallen, and there’s more than a nip in the air.

You may have gotten your sweaters out of storage and put warmer blankets on the bed. But have you considered getting your home’s HVAC and plumbing systems ready for the cold days ahead?

Your heating specialists at C & C Heating & Air Conditioning don’t want you to wake up one cold morning and discover your home has no heat. So, we’ve put together a list of tips that will help you prepare your home’s HVAC system for the winter days ahead.

1.     Change the Filter

This is a simple task, but because of our busy lives, many of us forget to do this. By regularly changing your filter, you allow your HVAC system to run more efficiently. Dirty filters restrict airflow to your HVAC system, which causes it to work harder. This leads to more wear and tear.

2.     Keep Items Away from the Unit

Don’t prop up items in or around your furnace or boiler. Not only is it unsafe, it also restricts airflow to the unit. Most HVAC professionals recommend you keep items about 3 feet away from your heating unit.

3.     Turn on Your Furnace While It’s Mild

Don’t wait to turn on your system when it gets very cold outside. You don’t want to discover you have no heat after it’s already freezing. It’s better to find out if you need repairs while the weather is still mild. Then you can have the system repaired before winter sets in.

4.     Invest in an Updated Thermostat

If you have an older thermostat, it may be a good idea to consider a programmable or smart thermostat. These types of thermostats can be programmed to turn your system on when you really need it. This helps you save money by reducing unnecessary use.

5.     Have an Annual Tune-up

Most people know that a yearly medical checkup is a good idea to stay on top of your health. The same is true of your HVAC system. Your HVAC professional will replace worn parts and clean the system. Annual tune-ups also alert you to any problems that might be building within your system. This extends the lifespan of your furnace or boiler.
