Keeping Your Cool When Choosing an HVAC Company
As we move into winter, it’s more important than ever to make sure that your HVAC system is up to the task of keeping your home warm.
It wasn’t that long ago that homeowners turned to the Yellow Pages in order to find a reputable HVAC company in their area. But these days, anyone can print business cards and pamphlets to make it appear as though they are professionals.
So how do you ensure that you’re hiring the right team to handle repairs, maintenance or installation?
A house is generally the largest financial investment most people make. This means it’s important to follow these tips to find the right HVAC team for your needs:
Experience Counts
Ask around. Your family and friends can probably refer you to a good contractor, but don’t neglect to do your own research. Don’t hire a contractor if you can’t find good information about them from either the Better Business Bureau or from a quick internet search. Find their website or Facebook page and read about their experience. How long have they been in business? Who are some of their customers? What is their track record?
Insurance, Licensing and Certifications
A reputable contractor has good insurance. Make sure the contractor you hire has general liability insurance and provides their employees with workers’ compensation insurance should they be injured on the job.
Contractors also need to be licensed within the city or state where they work. Each state has different licensing requirements, so be sure to find out what is required in your area.
Certifications are also important. An HVAC contractor that ensures its techs have the North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification means you are probably in good hands.
Ask About Warranties
A trustworthy contractor will have warranties covering both labor and supplies. Depending on the work and replacement parts, a reputable home service company provides guarantees on their work. Avoid a potential contractor if they don’t give any warranties.
